- “I find the best way to communicate ‘how’ to do something is to explain *why* it’s done like that. The inclusion of ‘why’ creates a mental framework to understand what someone is doing rather than just correctly following steps.
- Don’t refer to “the meeting” but to “the meeting of/with/about”. Don’t say “it’s not feasible” but “it’s not feasible because/unless”. Don’t say “I’ll check with my colleagues” but “I’ll check with the developers in Department X”
Your transparency will 1) make you think more clearly about your actions and views; 2) be appreciated by your interlocutor; 3) enhance trace-ability of your actions for yourself when something re-surfaces a year later; 4) limit your liability by avoiding overly generic promises
